At Sefton Play Council we believe that the role of the playworker is to provide and maintain a stimulating, challenging, transient environment for children to play. Our playworkers facilitate children’s play as opposed to directing it, fully endorsing the notion that children should control the content and intent of their play.

Our playworkers are advocates for risk in play, and the developmental value of risk in play. However we ensure that children’s safety and security is never compromised.

Our team of qualified playworkers are available to facilitate play days and play events for children and young people across Merseyside aged from 2-16 years. We have facilitated play days and forest play sessions in a variety of settings including parks, out of school clubs, woodland settings, holiday clubs, early years settings, children’s centres, parent and toddler groups, residential play settings and schools.

Our play events often have a theme. However children will direct and control their play, using the environment and resources on offer as they choose. Possible themes include:

  • Forest Play
  • Beach Play
  • Den Building
  • Environmental Arts and Crafts
  • Willow Domes (seasonal)
  • Balloon Modelling
  • Games
  • Scrap Play…. and many more!

All of our play sessions and events are fully inclusive. The timing of our play sessions/events and numbers of children vary according to the age and abilities of the children, the setting and the play themes of choice. All our activities and play opportunities are risk assessed to ensure the presence of risk and challenge in play within the realm of children’s safety and security.
